With the summer season officially in full swing, the nights are proving hot and for people looking for a way to cool off, a walk around downtown Minot might be just the ticket, specifically a walk that includes wine and appetizers.
The first-ever Downtown Minot Hot Summer Night Wine Walk will help cool people off on Friday from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
Tickets for the wine walk are $50 and can be purchased at Cookies For You at 117 South Main Street in downtown Minot. The cost covers 20 different wines and appetizers. There are only a limited amount of tickets for sale and all participants in the wine walk must be 21 years or over. Also, all of the parking lots will be open and free to the wine walkers during the event. The ticket sales will go toward the beautification and restoration of downtown Minot, including flowers, flower boxes, trees, Christmas tree lights and rope lighting on light poles, maintenance of the 100-year-old fountain, repair of the benches, and new garbage cans. The wine walk is a fundraiser to improve the atmosphere in downtown Minot.
Downtown Minot, shown in this photo, will be the site of the first annual Downtown Minot Hot Summer Night Wine Walk, taking place on Friday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased for $50 at Cookies For You, 117 South Main Street and all proceeds will go toward improving the atmosphere in downtown Minot. Over 20 businesses will be participating, each featuring a different wine and appetizer.
Mary Helen Hasby, owner of Cookies For You, said there is usually a wine walk in the fall and the summer wine walk will be an annual event. Other people had told her that they weren't able to get tickets to the fall season wine walk and so she wanted to try and catch those who may have missed that by having another one in the summer, she explained.
"People in Minot are always looking for things to do and this is a great thing for them to do," she said.
It's anticipated that the summer wine walk will sell out. Hasby said participants buy their tickets at Cookies For You, register at one of the three places printed on their tickets, receive a wristband or a passport-type book, and from there venture into the 20 places offering wine or appetizers.
Tickets went on sale during the week of June 10, Hasby said, and 100 tickets were sold within the first hour. There are tickets still available, but there's a limited amount, she added.
Also at the Hot Summer Night Wine Walk will be a VIP reception for the sponsors with a sommelier from Minneapolis, Hasby noted. The sponsors will get to enjoy wine tasting at the reception with the sommelier as well as participate in the walk with her, she continued. The reception will take place at the Carnegie Center, Minot's downtown event center, Hasby said. The Carnegie Center is located at 105-2nd Ave. S.E.
There are four of the five sponsorships that Hasby wanted to thank, including Visit Minot, Enbridge Pipelines, EAPC Architects & Engineers, and The Landing Bottle Shop. The fifth sponsorship had not been officially confirmed at the time of the interview.
"I'd also like to thank the businesses involved (in the wine walk) and the wine walkers," she added. "It's a great night for both of them."
Hasby said there will be more events coming for people to participate in in downtown Minot. "This is for the entire community," she continued. "The downtown is the heart of the community."
"If you want a night of pure relaxation and fun, come to the wine walk," Hasby said. "Bring your friends and you'll have a great night."
