Marvin Odell Olson was born Aug. 2, 1923, on the family farm near Plaza, the son of Ray and Sophie (Hanson) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Plaza. He attended Plaza schools and graduated from Plaza High School in 1942.
On April 3, 1948, Marvin was united in marriage to Violet Wheeling in Minot. They made their home on the family farm, where they farmed and raised their family. In 1997 they moved into Plaza.
Marvin served as clerk of Spring Coulee Township and was on the board of directors of the Plaza Equity Elevator for many years. He also served on the building committee of First Lutheran Church and was honored to be given the Fort Berthold Soil Conservation District Award in 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his family, the annual fishing trips to Canada and traveling. He was the caretaker of the North Plaza Cemetery alongside his grandson, collected John Deere toy farm machinery and every spring anxiously awaited the arrival of the first crocus. Most of all, Marvin loved farming and was a farmer his entire life.
