Minot Daily News

Loretta Joan Fuchs, wife, mother, educator, cookie maker and collector of all things green and Irish, passed away at the ripe old age of 95 on Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Loretta was born in Fortuna on the brisk day of Nov. 21, 1917, to parents John and Margaret (Colgan) Mullen. She spent her early years in the Fortuna area, where she was raised, educated and graduated from high school. Excited about passing on her love of learning, she attended Minot State Teachers College. After receiving her degree she went on to inspire young minds at the Barney Google Country School.

It was on June 9, 1941, when Loretta married Florian Q. Fuchs, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Crosby. They spent many happy years raising their family on a farm in Renville County before eventually relocating to Minot in 1980. Unfortunately their time together came to an end on April 28, 1996, when Florian passed away. After Florian's death Loretta remained in Minot for some time before moving to Berthold to be closer to her family.

A devout Catholic, Loretta was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church of Minot. She was an avid reader, storyteller and lover of poetry, but all of this came second to the love she had for her family.

She will be missed by the members of her family who she left behind including: her sons, David (Lynette) Fuchs, Duane Fuchs and Jerry (Paula) Fuchs; daughters, Peggy (Loren) Stach, Mary (Bruce) Ingebretson and Jeanie (Danny) Lautenschlager; 16 grandchildren: 33 great-grandchildren: sister-in-law, Charlotte (Johnny) Mullen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Mullen; husband, Florian Q. Fuchs; sons, Donald and Paul; siblings, Amy Mullen, Edna Carrier, Agnes Hougland and Johnny Mullen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph Fuchs, Marie Fuchs, Al Carrier, Stan Hougland, Mamie Mullen, Bernice Schaffer, Edna Schaffer and Leora Reeder; grandchild, Zane Lautenschlager; and great-grandchild, Zane Dean Lautenschlager.
