Gerald Thomas Rensch, 82, Makoti, died Friday, June 7, 2013, in a Minot hospital.

Gerald was born on Nov. 17, 1930, in Makoti, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Wolf) Rensch. He was raised in Makoti and graduated from Makoti High School in 1949. He then attended St. Thomas University in Minnesota until he was drafted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 17, 1952.

Following basic training in Texas, Jerry was united in marriage to Vivian "Tucky" Lampert on May 26, 1952, in Makoti. They made their home in Texas while he served his country. Following his honorable discharge on Jan. 16, 1954, they returned to Makoti and took over the management of Rensch Garage, a family business started by his father in 1917. He continued to own and operate Rensch Garage until 1995 when he retired and turned it over to his son, Brian. Jerry held the contract to sell Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Buick for 38 years.

Following his retirement he spent his winters in Mesa, Ariz.

Following Vivian's death on June 25, 2004, Jerry continued to make Makoti his home. He loved to golf and spent many happy hours on golf courses in North Dakota and Arizona with his family and friends and recorded five holes-in-one throughout his life. He also enjoyed hunting, farming and caring for his house, yard and trees. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and had many friends who were an important part of his life.

Jerry was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the William Hanson American Legion Post and the N.D. Implement Dealers Association. He volunteered on the Ryder/Makoti Ambulance and Fire Department and served on the Makoti City Council for several years. May God bless the memory of Gerald Thomas Rensch.
