Minot Daily News

Timothy Lee Berg, beloved brother and uncle, passed away unexpectedly in Citrus Heights, Calif., on Aug. 15, 2012.

He was born in Minot on March 8, 1959, to Roland L. and Mavis A. (Anderson) Berg. He was baptized by the Rev. Marvin Odland of Bethany Lutheran Church on April 7, 1959, and he was later confirmed at Bethany. Tim attended public schools in Minot and graduated from Minot High School.

After high school, he attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, earning certificates in several different fields.

He worked for a time for Larry Johnson, his brother-in-law, in Minot, before moving to Arizona, then to California, in the 1980s. Tim worked in construction with his older brother Steve in California for a while, before entering full-time employment as a tile setter and joining the Bricklayers & Trowel Trades union.

While living in Sacramento, Calif., Tim met and married his 'woman of mystery', Kathy "Darcy" Stilp.

Darcy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Aug. 28, 1951, and she had lived in Florida and in San Francisco after graduating from high school and before meeting Tim in Sacramento. They shared their lives in Citrus Heights until her untimely death, from natural causes, on Nov. 26, 2005.

Her passing was a blow that Tim never quite recovered from, but he was fortunate to have friends who supported him in the long years following Darcy's death, until such time as Tim himself died.

Tim and Darcy did not have any children.

Both Tim and Darcy were cremated in California, and their remains sent on to Minot.

Tim's cremation was handled by Angel Care Cremation and Burial of Carmichael, Calif.

Tim was preceded in death by his wife, Darcy, and by his parents, Roland and Mavis Berg.

Tim is survived by: brothers, Mark (wife Erina), Minot; Steve, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Cory (wife April), Temecula, Calif.; and sisters, Beverly Gronos (husband Greg), Alexandria, Minn.; and Paula Johnson (husband Larry), Minot, and their broods of sons and daughters, with a few granddaughters and grandsons, as well.

Tim had a grand sense of humor, was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed evenings out playing poker with friends in Sacramento.

A memorial service for Tim and Darcy: Will be held at the chapel at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, on Monday, June 10, at 1 p.m.

Their ashes will then be laid to rest where Tim's parents now lie at Rosehill.

Memorials: Those interested in a memorial for Tim should give to a cause, or an organization, of their own choosing.
