Alice (Feiring) Bloms, 88, Grand Forks, formerly of Minot, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, in a Grand Forks nursing home.
Alice was born Jan. 4, 1925, to Anton and Clara (Peterson) Feiring, in Stanley. She lived on the family farm near White Earth until 1935, when the family moved to Glenburn. She graduated from Glenburn High School in 1943. After graduation she worked for the county clerk for Renville County in Mohall.
On June 25, 1944, she married Martin Bloms, of Foxholm. They rented a farm west of Glenburn, where they farmed until June of 1949, when they purchased a farm south of Lansford. Martin and Alice farmed in the Lansford community until September of 1984, when they retired and moved to Minot.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Lansford and after moving to Minot they attended St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.
In March of 2010 Martin and Alice moved to a senior living community in Grand Forks. Martin passed away May 25, 2011. Alice continued to reside in the senior complex, taking part in activities and making new friends.
Alice loved to cook and share her hot dishes and baked good with others. Her specialties and family favorites included lefse, bonbons, doughnuts, baked beans, meatballs, and dill pickles. She enjoyed knitting and many were blessed by her beautiful afghans and hand dishcloths. She skillfully painted many of Martin's woodworking projects and hand painted three porcelain nativity sets for her children. Alice loved to travel and her trip to Germany and bus trip back East in the fall were two of her favorites. She liked to write letters and receive them which kept her close in touch with family and friends.
Those who shared in Alice's life are: her daughter, LaVonne (Keith) Elliott, Fargo; sons, Kenneth M. (Sherri) Bloms, Foristell, Mo., and Joel D. (Deb) Bloms, Grand Forks; six grandchildren, Mike (Amy) Elliott, Sioux Falls, S.D., Chad (Sarah) Elliott, Fargo, Jason (Amy) Bloms, Peoria, Ill., Michelle (Jared) Bruns, Huntsville, Ala., and Tyler and Kindra Bloms, both of Grand Forks; six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; parents, Anton and Clara Feiring; and brother, Arnold Feiring.
Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, June 10, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Burial: Monday, June 10, at 1:15 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday, June 9, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Vigil prayer service: Sunday at 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
