Police at first received reports that an explosion had occurred Thursday afternoon at the Minot landfill, but that was quickly dismissed and the real site of the explosion was identified as Continental Metal Products on Valley Street in Minot, seen here from nearby U.S. Hwy. 2 at around 3 p.m. Although the case is being handled by Ward County, the Minot Police Department was able to say that a crane was moving a propane tank at the business site and that the tank may have been punctured by the jaws of the crane, causing it to explode. By Thursday evening additional details were not forthcoming, although unofficial emergency broadcasts during the incident mentioned that there may have been one person injured. Police did not report the possible injured person as being transported to the hospital.
