Ruth A. Gilkison, 93, Wildrose, left this earth to go to her eternal home on Sunday, May 26, 2013.
Ruth Alice (Scherer) Gilkison was born at Wildrose on Feb. 1, 1920, to Otto and Maggie Scherer.
She was one of 12 children six brothers and five sisters. She married Elmer "Short" Gilkison on July 6, 1938, in Lakota. They made their home in Wildrose. They were blessed throughout their 58 years of marriage with six girls Elaine, Lois, Sherran, Phyllis, Marilyn and Joanne. Along with those girls Ruth was "Grandma," "Grandmother" and "Dramma" to 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Ruth loved to bake and cook. She prided herself in her chocolate chip cookies and her famous "grandma" doughnuts. She loved being outdoors feeding the birds, planting flowers, one of her favorites being marigolds which she proudly planted every year along her sidewalk, and spoiling her little dog Petey. She loved music, listening to Elvis and Daniel O'Donnell. Reading and crossword puzzles were two of her favorite pastimes.
Ruth was so lucky to have many dear friends, neighbors and caregivers throughout the years who she loved dearly. She cherished her daughters and her family. Thank you to everyone who touched her life in so many ways.
Survivors include: her daughters, Elaine (Neal) Nelson, Tioga, Lois Krueger, Bismarck, Sherran (C.E.) Cope, Williston, Marilyn (Lynn) Carlson, Minot, and Joanne (Bernie) Wirtz, Blaisdell; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
