Jerry R. Obenauer Sr., 65, of Hazen, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, at his home. Private family services will be held. A private family burial will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Belfield where he will lay to rest with his wife, Leona Obenauer.
Jerry was born July 1, 1947, to Richard and Martha Obenauer, in Ashley. He attended Minot public schools and graduated from Minot High School. He then enrolled at Bismarck Junior College.
On May 1, 1968, he married Leona Ewoniuk in Minot. They lived in Mayport, Fla., where Jerry served in the Navy. He was also a member of the North Dakota National Guard. In 1971, they returned to North Dakota and lived in Grand Forks until 1974. In 1974, they moved to Hazen.
Jerry worked in various positions in the construction industry over his career, and also served as a municipal judge in Hazen for several years. He finished out his career at Minot Air Force Base, where he worked as a civil contractor.
He loved spending time watching his sons and grandchildren compete in sports and participate in various other activities. Jerry also enjoyed working on his family genealogy.
Jerry is survived by: his sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Stephanie, and Jerry and Christie, all of Hazen; and six grandchildren: Isaak, Kordon, Juno, Elle, Bohdan, and Magnus, all of Hazen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; his special friend, Joyce Els; and his parents, Martha and Richard Obenauer.
