The yearly battle for blood in Minot is scheduled for next week, with the annual friendly competition between the Minot Fire Department and the Minot Police Department held to bring donors to a blood drive but also raise awareness of the ongoing need for blood.
This year's Battle of the Badges is scheduled for May 28, 29 and 30 from noon to 7 p.m. at the Sleep Inn and Suites. The event includes demonstrations from both departments, as well as booths with equipment, food, prizes and music. Organizers are hoping to attract more than 320 blood donors to the three-day event.
Anyone is welcome to participate in the event, and blood donors can designate which department they want their donation to count for in the competition. Donors can simply walk in and participate, or they can schedule an appointment.
The friendly competition provides an opportunity for both the fire and police departments to get to know members of the public as they raise awareness for the continued need for blood donations. It's grown into a popular event, and we expect this year to be no different. We encourage everyone interested in donating blood to take part in the annual Battle of the Badges competition.
