Watford City defeated Kenmare-Bowbells-Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 14-4 in five innings early Sunday morning to win the Class B North Region softball tournament.
The Wolves batted around in their first three trips to the plate and Kara Langerud, McKayla Haugeberg and Brittany Taves recorded hits in each of their at-bats.
"In our first year having a softball team, we not only made it to state, we made it as region champs," Watford City coach Devin Langerud said in a press release. "The girls really wanted to win this tournament and knew it was possible. They showed true to that and I am very proud of this team."
The tournament began in Bottineau on Friday but was moved to Herb Parker Stadium in Minot on Saturday due to rain. With games pushed back and only one field to play on, the championship game didn't begin until after midnight.
The state tournament begins May 30 at Elmwood Park in West Fargo.
