Minot Daily News

On April 27 in Cheyenne, Wyo., Weslie Raymond Vannett, 75, accepted God's invitation home. His loving wife, daughters, sisters and granddaughters were alongside him when he passed.

On Oct. 24, 1937, in Minot, Weslie was born to Marion and Alice Vannett. He grew up in Minot with three sisters and a brother. He graduated in 1955 from Minot High School.

He was blessed to be the father of three special girls and loved them dearly. He worked for Western Sheet Metal when he moved to Cheyenne in the '70s. He and Bob Sainz started Diamond Heating and Air Conditioning in 1986. They remained dedicated friends through Wes' final days. Weslie's talent and love for music led him to become a musician. He founded "Wes Vannett and the Strangers" and was proud of their accomplishments.

Weslie married Pat Gilstrap on June 21, 1986. The ceremony took place at the homestead Weslie built in 1976. Pat loved him "in sickness and health" through their days together. In addition to music, he enjoyed snow skiing, camping and boating, reveling in the beauty God provided. Weslie recently received the "Legion of Honor" for giving 25-plus years of service to the Kiwanis Club.

Weslie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Laverne, and a stepdaughter, Lesa Sparks.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Vannett, of Cheyenne; sisters, Elaine Hogan, Carol Lindekugal and Janice Cooper; daughters, Terri Johnson (Marlowe) of Minot, DeeAnn Hansen (Art) of Cheyenne, and Kathy Smith (Jeff) of Temecula, Calif.; stepchildren, Gary Sparks (Karla) of Simi Valley, Calif., and Diane Sparks of Dallas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service for Wes on May 18 at 10 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. Lunch will be served.
