Elaine A. Hanson, 75, of Turtle Lake, passed away at Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital on Sunday, May 5, 2013, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Elaine (Rising) Hanson was born Jan. 29, 1938, in Dickinson, to Rudolph and Elizabeth (Morton) Rising. She attended country school near Golva, attended Bismarck St. Mary's High School as a freshman and sophomore, and graduated from Regan High School in 1955. Elaine earned her licensed practical nurse degree from Minot State University.

Elaine worked as a nurse at Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital for 25 years and served as organist of St. Catherine's Catholic Church for nearly 40 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.

Elaine is survived by: her children, Geraldine (Terry) Kranzler, of Wheatland, Gene (Connie) Anderson, of Mandan, Rob Anderson, of Lovelock, Nev., Loran (Jaime) Anderson, of Wilton, Jim (Cathy) Anderson, of North Branch, Minn., LeRoy (Wendy) Anderson, of Winnemucca, Nev., Jovita (Ernest) Thomas, of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Rudy Anderson, of Wilton; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Catherine Bergan and Betty Fraase; one brother, JoRay (Connie) Rising; and her special friends, Frank and Sally Jerkovich and Aileen Erdman.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald Hanson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Turtle Lake, with Father Frank Schuster officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Golva.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Turtle Lake followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital or St. Catherine's Altar Society.
