NEW TOWN - Glenda Baker Embry, Parshall, has been elected president of District 9 of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is a member of Little Shell Unit 300 in New Town.
Martha Johnson, New Town, had served as president of District 9. Marlys Aubol, New Town, department president-elect for the state and membership chairman, was interim District 9 president until the election.
The election was held April 4 in New Town during the District 9 American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary meeting.
Embry and Aubol will be sworn in for their district and state positions at the state convention June 28-30 in the Airport International Inn, Williston.
Beck Sherven Post 290 and Unit 290 of the Auxiliary hosted the District 9 meeting. Ron Broderson, Watford City, is District 9 commander of Post 290.
Embry, Monica Mayer of Aberdeen, S.D., originally from New Town, and Shawna Eagle of New Town, all Army veterans, told the group about their time in the military. Embry and Mayer are members of Little Shell Unit 300. Eagle served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A memorial service was held for District 9 auxiliary members who have passed during the year.
District 9 includes Alexander, Crosby, Grenora, Little Shell, Mandaree, New Town, Noonan, Parshall, Powers Lake, Ray, Ross, Stanley, Tioga, Watford City, Wildrose and Williston.
