SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Minot State University baseball team allowed 21 runs on 20 hits in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent Augustana (S.D.) on Thursday.
The Beavers (10-18 overall, 2-12 NSIC) fell behind by 10 runs after two innings in a 14-0 loss in game one. MSU wasn't able to hold on to a three-run lead entering the seventh inning of game two, allowing five runs in the next two frames in a 7-4 loss - the Beavers' fifth straight conference defeat.
"Our pitchers need to do a better job on getting ahead in the counts and varying their speeds," MSU coach Brock Weppler said in a press release. "The first we were flat again, but the second game we improved and played better."
The Vikings (28-15, 16-6) touched up MSU's pitchers for four home runs in the doubleheader to stretch their season-high winning streak to 12 games.
MSU senior Mitch Olson led the Beavers offense with three hits and an RBI in game two.
The Beavers play a pair of weekend doubleheaders against Bemidji State (Minn.).
