Ilene Beecher, 89, Minot, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, in a Minot nursing home, surrounded by her family

Ilene Lorraine Nelson was born April 22, 1923, a daughter of Lewis P. and Mary (Dixon) Nelson, in Flaxton. She was raised and educated in Flaxton, graduating from Flaxton High School in 1941. She furthered her education at Trinity Hospital in Minot, where she received her nurses training, becoming a registered nurse in 1944. Ilene worked at Ashbury Hospital in Minneapolis, and the Weston Clinic in Arkansas City, Kan.

On July 2, 1947, Ilene was united in marriage to Lyle Beecher. They made their home in Minot, where Ilene worked as an RN night supervisor at Trinity Hospital and Medical Arts Clinic for many years.

Lyle died Sept. 30, 2000. Ilene continued to live in Minot, moving to The View in October 2011.

Ilene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was active with the Dorcas Circle, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Trinity Hospital Alumni, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Souris Valley Women's Golf. Throughout her golfing career, Ilene recorded two hole-in-ones.

Ilene is survived by: Daughters, June Rieb and her husband, James, Altamonte Springs, Fla., Carol Beecher and her husband, Kevin Johnson, Lancaster, Minn.; grandson, Jason Rieb, and his wife, Danielle, Longwood, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Haley Festa and A.J. Festa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ilene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; and brothers, Lewis, Lloyd, Harold, Vinsel and Alvin.

Funeral service: Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: A private burial service will take place at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Today, April 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot
