Josephine M. "Toodie" Ziebarth, 95, Anamoose, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the St. Aloisius Care Center in Harvey where she had been a resident for four years.

Josephine "Toodie" Bromley, daughter of George and Mary (Nissen) Bromley, was born Nov. 20, 1917, on her parent's farm north of Drake where she grew up and attended the nearby Round Lake country school.

On Dec. 20, 1939, she was married to Clarence Ziebarth. She and Clarence farmed until 1962 and later operated the Guthrie Elevator. Clarence passed away Jan. 20, 1982.

Toodie lived a very active life. In addition to being Clarence's "second man" on the farm and at the elevator, and raising four children. She worked at the Empress Cafe in Drake and also the Anamoose and Drake schools. She also took care of special education children in Drake, cleaned houses and sold Willex products. In her later years, Toodie cared for a number of elderly people. On one occasion, when asked what she was doing nowadays, she responded "taking care of old people", and at that particular time Toodie was older than the person she was caring for.

Toodie loved to have fun. In her younger days, she and her four brothers had their own band. She played the mouth organ and guitar. She enjoyed camping, playing bingo, visiting the casinos and especially spending time with family.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake where she taught Sunday school for many years, the David D. Nehrenberg American Legion Post #32 Auxiliary of Drake and the Harvey Eagles Club.

Toodie is survived by three daughters, Darlene (Allen) Schiele of Huron, S.D., Bonnie Kummer of Anamoose and Judy (Bennie) Schiele of Huron, S.D., and one son, Melvin (Colleen) Ziebarth of Washburn. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; three babies, Brenda, Randall and Videll; her parents; her sister, Gladys Lemer; four brothers, Clarence, Bernard, Raymond and Lester Bromley; son-in-law, Foster Kummer; two grandsons, Bryan and Terry Kummer; granddaughter, Julie Ann Schiele, daughter of Judy and Bennie; great-grandson, David Allen Peskey, son of Todd and Roxy; and great-granddaughter, Holly Lynn Kummer, daughter of Randy and Carmen.

Mom, you will be missed by all.

Funeral: Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake.

Visitation: Monday (today) from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.

Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Drake.
