FAYETTE, Iowa - The Minot State University baseball team received timely hitting and pitching during its doubleheader sweep of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent Upper Iowa on Saturday.
MSU senior Cole Stober allowed an earned run and struck out six in a 6-2 seven-inning victory in game one. The Beavers (10-12 overall, 2-6 NSIC) completed the sweep after a balk by Peacock pitcher Tanner Funke brought home MSU senior Shayne Court for the eventual game-winning run in a 5-4 win.
Scoreless after the first two innings of game one, MSU scored at least a run in each of the last four innings. Senior Mitch Olson went 3-for-3 and junior Tyler Stevenson recorded two hits, an RBI and two runs scored.
"Our offense had some real good approaches at the plate today," MSU coach Brock Weppler said in a press release. "We did a good job and beared down and got to their bullpen."
The Peacocks (10-12, 2-3) had a two-run advantage twice in game two, but the Beavers tied the game at three after six innings. Upper Iowa recaptured the lead in the top of the seventh before MSU scored a run in each of the final two innings to earn the sweep.
The teams play another doubleheader today starting at noon.
