Otis O. Schwartz, 97, Kenmare, passed away March 31, 2013, at the Benedictine Living Center, Garrison.
Otis Orin Schwartz was born July 15, 1915, to Jacob and Tess Schwartz, Kenmare. Otis was raised on the family farm west of Kenaston. Otis served with the United States 3rd Army Infantry Division, Company C, 285th Engineer Combat Battalion from 1944 to 1946. Otis met and later married Barbara Fry in Knutsford, England, on March 31, 1945. Otis and Barbara raised their children, Joan, Susan and John, on the family farm west of Kenmare.
Otis was active and held many offices in the American Legion Post #64; Elmdale Township Board; United Methodist Church; and Selective Service Board. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.
Barbara passed away May 18, 1982, in Minot.
Otis met and later married Evangeline Kloster on June 27, 1987, in New London, Minn. They made their home in several areas of Minnesota and currently in Benedictine Living Center in Garrison.
Survivors: Wife, Evangeline, Garrison; children, Joan Burnside, Minot, Susan (Dennis) Tando, West Richland, Wash., John Schwartz, Kenmare; stepchildren, Emily (Ken) Rand, Green Isle, Minn., Judy Tebben and Sally Manson, both of Hastings, Minn.; and Donna (John) Moon, Kalispell, Mont.; grandchildren, Gregg (Angela) Hansen, Bozeman, Mont., Laura (Jim) Sterling, Richland, Wash., Tammera Logan, Oceanside, Calif., Rebecca Burnside, San Francisco, J.B. (Jessica) Schwartz, Foxholm, Shane (Krissy) Schwartz, Minot, Chelsea (Adam) Nathan, Surrey; great-grandchildren, Brereton, Kyra and Harrison Schwartz, Foxholm; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Otis was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Barbara; brothers and sisters, Earl, Owen, Clarence, Ralph, A.D., Hazel Engelman, Orpha Clark, Evelyn McGillivary and Opal Townsend; and son-in-law, Steve Burnside.
Funeral service: Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare.
Interment: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, at a later date.
Visitation: Saturday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Memorials: Are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice.
