Jacqueline Marie Smith, 88, of Williston, more recently of Minot, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Trinity Homes in Minot.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, 2013, at 11 a.m., in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. Intern Pastor Joe Iverson will officiate and interment will be at Riverview Cemetery in Williston. A fellowship hour will follow the committal service at the church.

Jacqueline Marie Smith was born May 15, 1924, the daughter of Ted and Marie (Nelson) Hansen, at Williston. She was raised and educated at Spring Brook. She was raised in the Lutheran faith. As a young lady, Jacqueline moved to Williston, where she worked as a waitress in a restaurant.

She met Arthur Smith and the coupled married on June 28, 1948. They made their home on the Smith family farm in East Fork Township, Williams County, where they raised two children, Karen and Terry. Church was important to the Smith family and while on the farm they passed on the Lutheran traditions to their children at Faith Lutheran Church, north of Williston. In 1959, the Smiths moved into Williston and Arthur continued to farm, and Jacqueline raised the children and worked first at Service Drug and Family Thrift Store in Williston as a clerk. Jackie loved people and this allowed her to meet and visit with all of the store customers for many years. In those days she knew most of the Williston residents.

She and Arthur were charter members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. She loved her flowers, especially pink peonies and begonias; and kept an immaculate lawn for all to enjoy. In her earlier years she enjoyed needlepoint work and embroidery. When she retired, Jacqueline could be seen walking in the morning and again in the afternoon, as many as eight miles a day. She loved to walk, and to visit with all who passed her way. She especially enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by: her daughter, Karen, Mrs. Larry Gehring, of Minot, and her son, Terry Smith, of the family farm, rural Williston; five grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, of Brandon, S.D., Christina Smith, of Atlanta, Ga., Melissa (Peter) Baasch, of Buffalo, Megan (Jade) Herzog, of Shakopee, Minn., and Mikel (Travis) Ystaas, Bismarck; and nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fred (Gloria) Hansen, of Williston.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur; sister, Josephine Brown; a baby brother, Ned Hansen; a grandson, Zachary Daniel Smith; and a granddaughter, Angela Marie Smith.
