MORE MONEY Minot city officials were informed last week that the city will receive another $35 million in federal Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery funding. The state of North Dakota will also receive $6.6 million, with $5.2 million of that going to Ward County. Minot Mayor Curt Zimbelman best summed up the local reaction: "This is money that certainly we need.?We have a lot of unmet needs," the mayor said. And he is obviously correct. In more good news, officials may be allowed to give some of this round of CDBG money directly to homeowners as reimbursement for flood repairs. Previously, the federal guidelines for using the money prohibited the city from distributing the money directly to homeowners to help mitigate flood repair costs. There would be issues to deal with and requirements to meet, but at least there's the possibility that some flooded homeowners could receive some direct assistance from the CDBG funds, and that's a welcome change. As before, the city will have to create an action plan detailing how it intends to use the latest funds, with the plan hopefully ready for public comment by early summer. We look forward to the plan, and to homeowners benefitting directly from the funds.
