Allen Stromstad

Allen R. Stromstad, 91 years old, went to be with his Lord on March 21, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Crosby, N.D.

He was born Feb. 20, 1922, on his parents' farm at Alkabo, N.D.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Writing Rock Lutheran Church, rural Alkabo, with Pastor Ron Dahle officiating. Burial will follow at Writing Rock Lutheran Cemetery with Military Honors provided by: Alvin T. Larson American Legion Post #116. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby and also Monday, one hour before the service, at the church.

One of five siblings, he was born to S. Bennett and Esther M. (Robertson) Stromstad. He was raised on the family farm and volunteered for service to his country in October 1942. He served a tour of duty with the Army Air Corps, 440th Troop Carrier Squadron, and was stationed in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in October 1945.

After the service, Allen returned to Alkabo to take up farming and farmed his entire life. He married Alice I. Carlstad on Oct. 17, 1948, and they raised five children in the Lutheran Faith. Allen was an active member of Writing Rock Lutheran Church, Fortuna Curling Club, Fortuna Rural Fire Department, Sons of Norway, Alvin T. Larson American Legion Post in Grenora and the VFW in Crosby, Divide County Historical Society, and participated in numerous other civic activities. Allen was selected Jaycee Farmer of the Year in the early 1950s.

Allen is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Alice; and five children including Cheryl (Owen) Snyder, Capitola, Calif., Ron (Peg) Stromstad, Bismarck, N.D., Darlene Stromstad (special friend Dave Chabot), Midddlebury, Conn., Jan (Darrie) Peterson, Bismarck, N.D., and Jerry (Doris) Stromstad, Fortuna, N.D. Grandchildren include: Darren and Marty Odden, Twila and Randy Stromstad, Joshua Boe, Kendra and Dane Stromstad, Tyler and Carli Peterson, Clark Hagen, Raeann Hagen (Tim) Landis, Victoria (Snyder) Morris, Matthew Snyder, Kristi David, Jodi Bryant and several great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter ;and sister, Beverly Zehrung; brother, Curtis (Anne); sister-in-law, Elsie Stromstad; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Emmet and Donald; brother-in-law, Doug Zehrung, and sister-in-law, Inez Stromstad.

Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
