CLERMONT, Fla. - Mandy Greenberg and Tiffany Friesen combined for two scoreless pitching outings Monday as the Minot State University softball team opened the National Training Center Spring Tournament with a pair of wins over Spring Arbor University (Mich.).

Greenberg fanned 12 of the 16 batters she faced in five innings of game one, walking none and allowing one hit. Friesen pitched two innings of scoreless relief in the 4-0 win.

"Mandy really set the tone early for us," MSU coach Bill Triplett said in a press release. "She was nearly untouchable and got us going in the right direction down here."

Friesen tossed six innings in game two, an 8-0 six-inning shutout. The powerful senior had an even better game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with her team-leading fourth home run, a double and five RBIs.

"She is a threat to go deep in every at bat and we need her to continue to hit in the middle of our order," Triplett said. "We can be awfully tough when she is hitting like today."

Junior No. 3 hitter Jen Dixon finished 7-for-8 on the day with two triples and double.

The Beavers (10-1) play the University of Bridgeport (Conn.) at 10 a.m. today, followed by a 4 p.m. game against St. Leo's University (Fla.).
