Magdalena Schmidt, 88, Minot, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, in a Minot hospital.

Magdalena was born July 4, 1924, to Franz Xavier and Magdalena (Axtmann) Bohl on a farm in Sandale Township, Pierce County. She was raised and educated in both Sandale and Jefferson townships of Pierce County.

She married Philip Schmidt on Jan. 10, 1944, at St. Anselm's Catholic Church, at Fulda, in Jefferson Township, Pierce County. From 1944 to 1958 they farmed in Villard Township just north of Karlsruhe.

They moved to Minot in May 1958. From 1960 to 1976, Magdalena worked as a waitress at numerous Minot restaurants. From 1976 until her retirement in 1990, she worked in the laundry at Trinity Hospital.

She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot, and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Survivors: sons, James (Joyce) Schmidt, Bismarck, Leonard (Janice) Schmidt, Port Angeles, Wash., Albert Schmidt, Las Vegas, Nev., Gerald Schmidt and Laurie Young, Chadds Ford, Pa., Robert Schmidt, Portland, Ore., Leo (Jutta) Schmidt, Minot, Anthony Schmidt, Fargo, DeWayne (Denise) Schmidt, Budd Lake, N.J., and Patrick Schmidt, Minot; daughters, Marion (John) Reed, Pamona, Mo., Bernadine (William) Humphrey, Tyler, Texas, Ann Elkins, Tulsa, Okla., Caroline (Philip) Brand, Ringwood, N.J., Clara (Mark) Elenz, Dubuque, Iowa, and Sheila Schmidt, Minot; 27 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Frank Bohl, Havre, Mont., Joseph Bohl, Muenster, Texas, Andrew (Mildred) Bohl, Great Falls, Mont., and Peter Bohl, Suisun City, Calif.; sisters, Margaret (Duane) Williamson and Barbara Recktenwald, both Pensacola, Fla., and Theresa Burnsworth, Denver; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Magdalena was preceded in death by Philip, her husband of 62 years; an infant daughter, Mary, and daughter, Elizabeth Norman; her parents; brothers, Nicholas Bohl and Louis Bohl; sisters, Marian Boehm and Amelica Ducy.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Vigil prayer service: Today, Sunday, March 3, at 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday, March 3, 2013 from noon to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
