Jim Arthur Vollmer, 52, Sioux Falls, S.D., died Feb. 23, 2013, near Sioux Falls.

Jim Arthur Vollmer was born May 7, 1960, in Bismarck, to Irven and Anna Vollmer. He graduated in 1978 from Bismarck High School. He continued his education at NDSU in Fargo and Bismarck Junior College. In 1987, he received his master's in Counseling and Christian Education from North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls. Jim was currently working at the Avera Health hospital as a social worker.

He cherished his family time by playing sports, watching movies, going on bike rides, and many other activities his children loved. He helped out his wife unselfishly in many ways, such as cooking for his family. He loved to sing and was a part of the choir at Trinity Baptist Church. He was a role model to his family. He demonstrated his faith through his actions and touched the lives of many others through his gentle spirit.

Jim is survived by: his daughter, Brittany Joy Vollmer, who attends Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa; parents, Irven and Anna Vollmer, of Bismarck; sister, Brigitte, and brother-in-law, Jerry Baker, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and their son, Jeremy Baker, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Sandra Vollmer, of Colorado Springs; sister: Jane, and brother-in-law, Dan Johnson, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; sister, Laverne Vollmer, of Mandan, and their children, Guy Vollmer, of Mandan, and Jamie Vollmer, of Bismarck; and sister, Angela, and brother-in-law, John Pautz, of Minneapolis.

Visitation, with family present: Will be held at Sioux Falls Christian High School today, Feb. 28, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral: Friday, March 1, at 11 a.m. Sioux Falls Christian High School gymnasium. Following the service, the burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established to assist Brittany Vollmer with future education-related expenses.
