Vaughn Bloom

Vaughn Bloom, 80, of Stanley, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in a Garrison nursing home.

Vaughn was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Williston, to LeRoy and Norma (Ringoen) Bloom. He attended country school and then went west to Washington where he worked for a time. Vaughn returned to North Dakota and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He returned to North Dakota after his service duty and met Betty Abrahamson.

Vaughn and Betty were married Oct. 18, 1953, at Shell Creek Lutheran Church. They moved to California and lived there for eight years. They returned to farm south of Blaisdell in 1961. Vaughn and Betty farmed, milked cows and raised their three daughters. In 1973, they moved to his parents' farm and continued farming until 1984.

In 1981, Vaughn and Betty moved to Stanley and also spent part of the year in the south. They also managed the Stanley American Legion Club, the Scenic 23 Club near New Town and the Prairie Host Lounge in Stanley. Vaughn also drove truck for sugar beet farmers in the Red River Valley.

Vaughn enjoyed playing cards, fishing at Van Hook and 4-wheeling when they were in Arizona.

Vaughn is survived by: his wife, Betty, Minot; daughters, Jackie (Dennis) Deaver, Berthold, Janet (Rick) Lee, Plaza, and Jane (Delton) Brown, Minot; grandchildren, Brandi Deaver, Derrick (Wanda) Deaver, Denver (Janelle) Deaver, Jesse Lee, Alec Lee and Sarah Brown; stepgrandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Bean and Kory (Haley) Brown; great-grandchildren, Dawson Deaver, Quade Deaver and Audra Deaver; stepgreat-grandchildren, Casheley Brown, Samuel Babinchak, Bailey Bean and Kason Brown; and his sister, Shirley (David) Raney, Grafton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Norma, and his brother, Virgil Bloom.

Memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at Shell Creek Lutheran Church, rural Blaisdell.

Friends may sign a memorial register Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.

Interment of ashes will be at a later date in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
