WILLISTON - Sophomore forward Michael Jordan recorded a hat trick and also tallied an assist as the Minot State University men's ice hockey team defeated in-state rival Williston State College 8-2 on Wednesday.
Jordan assisted on the Beavers' first goal of the night scored by Logan Herauf at 13 minutes, 12 seconds of the first period before tallying a score of his own with 1:34 remaining in the frame.
"The guys really came to play today," MSU coach Wade Regier said in a press release. "We really wanted our guys to be patient and take advantage of their mistakes. We got into penalty trouble, but our penalty kill units were outstanding."
The Tetons broke through with four seconds remaining in the opening period to cut MSU's lead in half, but the third-ranked Beavers (22-4) scored seven of the game's final eight goals to pull out the victory.
Jordan netted his second goal in the second period before getting the hat trick with 12:51 remaining in regulation. Five Beavers registered goals as MSU finished 4-1 against the Tetons this season.
MSU junior goaltender Wyatt Waselenchuk finished with 28 saves.
The Beavers host the University of Arizona on Feb. 8 at Maysa Arena.
