Helen L. Graves, 79, of Paris, Tenn., formerly of Minot, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at her residence.
Born Sept. 20, 1933, in Faith, S.D., she was the daughter of the late Lynn and Venita Walter Escott. She married James Graves on June 12, 1955, in Sturgis, S.D.
Helen grew up in ranching country and had a great passion for horses all her life. Helen and Jim lived in Minot for more than 40 years, raising two sons, Warren and Wade. She loved sailing on Lake Sakakawea, traveling and gardening, and enjoyed her time spent with grandchildren. She gave her heart to her Savior in 1956, was a longtime member of Minot First Baptist Church and currently the First Baptist Church in Paris.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two sons: Warren (Patty) Graves, of Minot, and Wade Graves, of Loveland, Colo.; brother, Dale Escott, of Sturgis S.D.; four grandchildren: Sarah (Adam) Rassier, Grand Forks, Josh Graves, Fargo, and KC Graves and Audrey Graves, both of Colorado; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 5, at McEvoy Funeral Home, Paris, Tenn. Funeral services in South Dakota will be Friday, Jan. 11, 10 a.m., at Kinkade Funeral Home in Sturgis, with burial in Bear Butte Cemetery, Sturgis.
