LIGNITE Gordon L. Sorum, age 67, of Minot and formerly of Crosby, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Gordon Leon Sorum was born on Nov. 16, 1945, the son of Christian and Thelma (Berg) Sorum in Powers Lake. He grew up on the family farm near Lignite and graduated from Lignite High School.
Gordon lived and worked in Everett, Wash., Albuquerque, N.M., and Houston before returning to his beloved North Dakota. At the time of his death, he was retired and living in Minot.
Gordon was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Tonset Lutheran Church and later Christ Lutheran Church in Lignite. He had a love for horses and also dogs, and showed great kindness to the animals he owned. He also really enjoyed fishing and just being out in a boat on the lake.
Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Christian; mother, Thelma; stepfather, Johnny Roos; and brother, Neil.
He is survived by his brother, Kenneth (Joan) Sorum of Crosby; sister-in-law, Ruth Sorum in Lebanon, Ohio; uncle, Odleif (Bernice) Berg of Minot; and aunt, Inga Hanson of Minot. Also surviving are nephews, Kendall Sorum and Jonathan Sorum, both of Crosby and Nathan Sorum of Lebanon; nieces, Jocelyn Anderson of Minot, Jennifer Gjovig and Heather Oppegaard, both of Crosby and Chelsea Heinlein of DeWitt, Michigan as well as numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lignite with Pastor Janet Gwin officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
