Wayne W. Peery, 78, Minot, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Wayne Wilber Peery was born Oct. 22, 1934, on a farm near Hazelton, a son of Wilbur W. and Leona (Reinke) Peery. He graduated as salutatorian of Hazelton High School and went on to attend college at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. There he received a degree in auto mechanics while also taking correspondence courses in architectural drafting. For over a year after graduation he worked at Overmoen Implement Co.
Later, Wayne moved to Parshall. He worked for Hedberg Motor Co. for just over a year before purchasing Wayne's Friendly Service, a Mobil station. He owned the station for 13 years.
While in Parshall, he met and married Shirley Kathleen Nelson. They had four children together: David Allen, Todd Jeffrey, Linda Marie and Lisa Kay.
He earned such honors as City of Parshall councilman, director and later president of the park board, member of Parshall Chamber of Commerce, director of the Parshall Jaycees, and was president of the Lutheran Brotherhood. These accomplishments earned him an award of Outstanding Young Men of America in 1967.
He then moved to Bismarck, where he lived and worked for American Family Insurance for the next three years. He then moved back to Parshall and worked for Hedberg Ford for the next four years.
His life then took him to Minot in July 1974. He spent five years working for Nielson Stewart, where he met Gary Haugen. He then worked for Gary Haugen Construction for the next several years. This led to his job at Fisher Industries, where he worked until he officially retired. During his retirement he worked part time for the International Inn in the maintenance division.
Those who shared in his life: wife, Shirley Kathleen Peery; four children, David Allen (Deborah) Peery, Todd Jeffrey (Agnes) Peery, Linda Marie (Tracy) Boggs, and Lisa Kay (fiance, John Bezek) Pierce; grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Rakness, Brittany Peery, Kevin (Nicole) Peery, Tina Peery, Melissa Pierce, and Daniel Pierce, Harrison Roman, Magdalena Delatorre, and Timothy Boggs; and one great-grandchild, Jordyn Ann Peery.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Nyla Mattson and Eunice Craig.
Funeral: Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
