Alvin James Hoff, 82, of Minot, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.
Alvin was born Aug. 4, 1930, to Albert and Mary (Elrod) in Manitoba. He was raised and educated in Manitoba. He received his general education development (GED) certificate later in his life.
Alvin joined the Air Force and served from August 1951 to August 1955. Upon his discharge he returned to North Dakota and worked for the Civil Service in heating and ventilation maintenance until his retirement in 1985.
Alvin lived in Fortuna from 1965 until he relocated to Minot in 2003.
He was once married to Karon Rauk, and to this union four children were born Jim, Butch Kari and Carmen. Alvin loved being a father. The only thing he loved more than being a father was being a grandfather. Alvin lived for his grandchildren.
Alvin loved to read, especially to his grandchildren. He also liked to fish, garden and do different types of yard work. But the thing Alvin loved most was his grandchildren.
Left to mourn Alvin's passing are: his children, Jim (Terry) Hoff, of Williston, Kari (Jack) Martin, of Minot, Carmen (Francis) Andres, of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughters, Samantha Vargas and Shelby Lundy, of Minot, Nicole and Jennifer Hanson, both of San Diego; great-grandchildren, Eva and Emma Vargas, both of Minot; two brothers and three sisters and a host of nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Alvin will be greatly missed by all whose lives have been touched by him.
Preceding Alvin in death were his parents, Alvin and Mary Josephine; and a son, Butch Hoff; sisters, Margaret Olson and Louise Hoff; and brothers, Bill, Otto, Alfred and Elmer.
