Three of the five juveniles who assaulted an employee of the Youth Correctional Center in Mandan before escaping the facility together Sunday have been apprehended by Fargo police.
Terrick Kern, Emanuel Floyd Hunter II and Kyran Martin Johnson were caught, but Donny Lee Jr. and Robert Devine are still on the loose and considered both dangerous and possibly armed.
The youth are suspected to have spent time in Minot, including at the Virgil Workman Village FEMA park and the Holiday Village Mobile Home Park, early Monday morning and were searched for by the police and police dogs.
At least one vehicle was stolen during their stay in Minot: a 2003 Dodge Caravan van, which was reported stolen from the 5200 block of 15th Avenue Southeast early Tuesday morning, according to the Ward County Sheriff,
The van was reported to Fargo central dispatch as driving recklessly around noon Tuesday, and officers were sent to the scene where they attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver did not pull over, but instead sped up, exited the highway and entered residential Fargo.
Soon, due to the driver's "erratic maneuvers," police decided not to pursue because of the potntial danger posed to the public, said Lt. Joel Vettel of the Fargo Police Department.
Officers instead set up a perimeter around Rose Creek Golf Course and its surrounding neighborhood. The van was crashed into a tree there and became disabled. The boys were later found on a nearby walking path and arrested.
The three boys are being detained not only on new charges from their reckless driving and property damage in Fargo, but also are being held on their connected charges here in Ward County. Fargo police and the Ward County Sheriff's office have been in communications.
"They're wanted fugitives," Vettel said. It will be up to the court system to decide where they will be charged and for what.
