Attempted kidnapping suspect in custody

December 11, 2012
By FLINT McCOLGAN - Staff Writer (fmccolgan@minotdailynews.com) , Minot Daily News

Jacob K. Greeman, 25, of Deering, is in custody for the alleged attempted kidnapping of a woman at Walmart just after midnight Friday.

Greeman was arrested and charged with terrorizing, a Class C felony; unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, a Class B felony because a weapon was involved; and criminal attempt at kidnapping, a Class B felony, said Detective Shawn Wegner of the Minot Police Department.

The police received an anonymous phone call that alerted them to a vehicle matching the description they had released, which led them to Greeman.

According to police reports, Greeman is suspected to have entered the back seat of a woman's car in the Walmart parking lot, held his hand over her mouth, and put what the victim describes as a "pen-knife" to her throat. The woman was able to flee the vehicle and return to the store to call police.

The attempt appears to be a random act to the detectives on the case, as Greeman is not known to the victim.

Greeman has several prior convictions, including a misdemeanour count of possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia in 2007 and some underage consumption of alcohol charges, but no known felony charges.

Greeman has yet to make an initial appearance in district court.
