Reassigned overseas: Former Minot Air Force Base commander going to Pakistan

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE - A former commander at Minot Air Force Base has been nominated for another star and also will have a new assignment in Pakistan.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced Friday that President Barack Obama has nominated Air Force Maj. Gen. Gregory Biscone for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general.

He also is being assigned as chief of the Office of the Defense Representative-Pakistan, U.S. Central Command, at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Currently, Biscone is director of global operations at Headquarters U.S. Strategic Commnad at Offutt AFB, Neb.

Biscone was commander of the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot AFB from July 2003 to June 2005.

A new assignment for a former vice commander of the Minot AFB missile wing also was announced Friday.

The chief of staff of the Air Force, Gen. Mark Welsh III, announced that Brig. Gen. Sandra Finan will become commander of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Kirtland AFB, N.M. The center is a unit of Air Force Materiel Command.

Currently, she is principal assistant deputy administrator for military application at the Office of Defense Programs, National Nuclear Security Administration, with the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C.

She was vice commander of the Minot missile wing from June 2004 to July 2006.
