I am writing this letter because of my concern for the path our nation is on. I believe a nation is like each person and that there are two roads we can travel on. One is narrow and leads to life and fellowship with our Creator; the other is wide and leads to destruction and separation from our Creator.
At the beginning of our country, our nation grew and was blessed by God because of the strong faith of our founding fathers. They expressed it when they acknowledged a "Creator" and in our Pledge of Allegiance; they had it engraved on our money. They had prayer at the start of all important meetings and events in our nation's capital. They also displayed the Ten Commandments at all government buildings and prayer in schools was acceptable everywhere. But we gradually turned our back on God and went our own way until 9-11 happened. That brought us back to our need for divine guidance and people began to pray and attend worship services again but that didn't last very long and now our nation is on the brink of a total moral collapse. God has given us every chance to put him first in our lives and if Jesus wept over Jerusalem he must be doing the same for the United States and all of us. A lot of Christians were praying that the Nov. 6 national election would bring new leadership who would support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and woman and protect the unborn babies who are being aborted by the millions. What will we say at the judgment when we are asked why we didn't do more to stop this tragedy. We also wanted someone elected who would protect our religious freedoms. But I think we will be disappointed again. We are all to blame.
I wonder if our last chance for God's blessing on our nation is found in the Bible in Chronicles 7:14 as it was for King Solomon and the nation of Israel in the Old Testament.
"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.
