SHERWOOD Goldie Fern Burch, 96, Sherwood, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at a Mohall nursing home.
Goldie was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Jones, Okla., a daughter of Oscar and Dott (Judkins) Deal. She was raised in Jones and graduated from Jones High School. She attended Oklahoma State University and later taught home economics at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Goldie married James "Harvey" Burch on Oct. 28, 1939, in Lawton, Okla. They lived in Jones, where they raised their two boys plus a nephew. They lived in Colorado and Michigan, where Harvey worked in the oil fields.
In December of 1964, Goldie and Harvey came to North Dakota on a 10-day assignment in the oil fields. Those 10 days turned into 49 years! They first lived in Mohall for approximately 10 years, and had made Sherwood their home the last 39. Harvey died Dec. 14, 2008. Goldie continued living in Sherwood until entering the Good Samaritan Society nursing home in Mohall in April of this year.
Goldie was a member of United Methodist Church, Sherwood, and was a charter member and past president of the Sherwood Garden Club. Goldie loved gardening, both vegetables and flowers. Each year she planted and tended a huge garden.
Family: sons, Jim (Susie) Burch, Billings, Mont., and Chuck (Jan) Burch, Marietta, Ga.; young men whom they helped parent, Don (Donna) Adkins, Lakewood, Colo., and Larry (Nana) Brandly, Estes Park, Colo.; grandchildren, Jeff Burch, Clovis, Calif., Mark Burch, Yellow Springs, Ohio, Kristi Burch, Kansas City, Kan., Barrett Burch, Metairie, La., and Katy Hutsen, Kennesaw, Ga.; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Roxanna Craig, of Jay, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; one sister; and Tom Longacre, a young man whom they helped parent.
Funeral: Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at United Methodist Church, Sherwood.
Burial: Sherwood Union Cemetery, Sherwood.
Visitation: Monday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
