Richard Lee Brown, 87, of Stanley, N.D., passed away into the hands of the Lord on Nov. 18, 2012, in a Minot hospital.
Richard was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Chaseley, N.D., to Gustave and Louisa (Evans) Brown. He is one of eight children. He started working at a very early age to help support his family. At the age of 20, Richard joined the United States Army for two years and was a World War II veteran. He met the love of his live while working on his wife's family farm and married Deloris Becker on June 17, 1952, in Sykeston, N.D. He lost his wife of sixty years last January. He missed her dearly and is now reunited with her in heaven.
After marrying he spent many years working alongside his wife farming and managing Brown's Bar in Sykeston and the American Legion Club in Stanley. He was a faithful member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Stanley. Richard was a devoted husband, and loving and caring father and grandfather. He was a very talented and extremely hard worker.
During his lifetime, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, carpentry, bowling, bingo, dancing, cards, sporting events, and collecting antiques. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife, family and friends.
Richard was loved by many and will be truly missed.
His loving family includes: his daughters, Paulette (Steve) Streitz, of Minot, N.D., Pam (Lanny) Johnson. of Minot, Peggy (Jim) Rudick, of Port Orchard, Wash., Jean (Wayne) Law, of Hillsboro, Ore., Joan (Kim) Hollekim, of Stanley, and Becky (Darren) Bentow, of Glyndon, Minn.; his sons, Bob Brown, of Bottineau, N.D., and Jay Brown. of Stanley; his grandchildren, Sarah Streitz, Kevin (Sarah) Streitz, Brian (Becky) Streitz, Lisa (Pete) Schlater, David (Laurie) Randall, Christy Randall, Kyle Law, Karissa Law, Ashley Lystad, Brooke (Seth) Wisthoff, Dustin Bentow, Amy Bentow, Chad Brown, Chris (Mallory) Brown, and Josh Brown; and two stepgrandchildren, Karen (Dana) Swenson and Kevin Johnson; and ten great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren; his brothers, George (Dottie) Brown and Gerald Brown, his sisters, Alice Neumiller and Jean Larson; and sister-in-laws, Inez Brown, Linda Brown and Carol (John) Manley.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his sons, Curtis and Chad Brown; and his daughter-in-law, Hope Brown. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Evan, Alvin and Norman; and brother-in-law, Burl Larson.
Funeral: Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Stanley, N.D.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Stanley.
Visitation: Today, Nov. 20, from noon to 4 p.m. at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.
Vigil prayer service: Today at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Stanley.
