NEW TOWN - Four people died in New Town and another person died in Parshall Sunday. Law enforcement officers are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
Mountrail County Sheriff Ken Halvorson said the four people who died at a residence in New Town are a woman, two boys and a girl. The woman is the grandmother to the three children.
The sheriff's office in Stanley received a 9-1-1 call regarding the New Town incident about 3 p.m., Halvorson said.
He said the adult male who died in Parshall was from New Town.That incident occurred about 8:30 p.m., he said.
Bodies of the five individuals will be taken to Bismarck for autopsies.
Further details were not available Sunday night but are expected to be released shortly.
The investigation is a joint effort of the Mountrail County Sheriff's Office, FBI, Three Affiliated Tribes' Police, City of New Town Police and North Dakota Highway Patrol.
