BISMARCK The North Dakota Department of Human Services has appointed Deb McDermott as chief financial officer, according to a news release. McDermott has served as the department's assistant director of accounting since 1998 and begins her new position on Monday.
"Deb brings a wealth of expertise in financial management to her new position," said Maggie Anderson, the department's interim executive director. "She also has a clear understanding about how the department's programs and services help vulnerable North Dakotans maintain and enhance their quality of life."
As CFO, McDermott will lead a 40-person Fiscal Administration Division responsible for the implementation and management of the department's $2.6 billion budget.
McDermott has worked in the field of accounting and finance for nearly 28 years for the state of North Dakota and is a certified public accountant. She began her career as an auditor with the N.D. Office of the State Auditor, then joined the Department of Human Services in 1994 as an accounting budget specialist responsible for preparing revenue projections, fiscal notes for Legislative Council, financial schedules to monitor various program budgets, and expenditure management. Four years after that, she was promoted to assistant director of accounting.
