Minot Space Aliens closes

November 13, 2012

The Minot Space Aliens Grill & Bar shut its doors for the final time at 4 p.m. Monday.

Officials at Food Management Investors Inc. cited weak business for their decision to close the restaurant here as well as their location in Grand Forks.

"This is simply a business decision. We tried everything we could to make the restaurants successful, but finally we needed to move on and concentrate on other interests. Our main concern was taking care of our team members, and all of them have been offered the opportunity to work in our other restaurants," Abe Sakak, the Chief Operating Officer for FMI, said in a statement.

The Minot Space Aliens Grill and Bar permanently closed Monday afternoon. FMI, Inc., cited weak business as the cause of shutting down their Space Aliens locations in Minot and Grand Forks.

"Everyone who wanted to be placed was placed," confirmed Annette Schilling, marketing director.

Most employees will be split between the Minot locations for Badlands Grill and Applebees, both of which are owned and operated by FMI. One employee expressly asked to be placed at the Minot Qdoba Mexican grill, which is not owned by FMI, but is operated by the company.

The property was leased from Investors Real Estate Trust, Minot, and the lease has been returned to IRET following the restaurant's closing.
