This year's Veterans Day program in Minot will have a slight time change in being held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. The program will be in the armory at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
Normally the program is held on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., but the change in time was made to allow people to attend Sunday church services.
Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor all veterans of the armed forces.
Maj. Jennifer Lea Soles, commander of the 91st Missile Maintenance Squadron at Minot Air Force Base, will be the guest speaker at the Minot program.
Soles received her commission in 1998. She has a background in transportation, intercontinental ballistic missile maintenance, conventional munitions, aircraft maintenance and nuclear munitions maintenance, according to her Air Force biography. Her maintenance background includes the F-16 and A-10 airframes, Minuteman III ICBM weapon system as well as nuclear munitions maintenance with every nuclear warhead and bomb in the Air Force inventory.
She has deployed three times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.
Soles was an Air Force Fellow with the National Laboratory Technical Fellowship Program at Kirtland AFB, N.M., and also served as the executive officer to the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center commander, also at Kirtland AFB.
The Minot American Legion is in charge of this year's program and other veterans and auxiliaries also are participating.
On Veterans Day, the American Legion Post 26 at 1949 N. Broadway will be serving a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and refreshments for the entire family from 7 a.m. to noon. A freewill donation will be accepted. Extra parking is available across the street behind the Tesoro service station.
At 5:30 p.m. on Veterans Day, the Minot Veterans of Foreign Wars will serve a Swiss steak supper at its club at 1100-31st St. SE. All veterans and their spouses are welcome to attend.
