Area mayors support tax

November 4, 2012
Minot Daily News

Every community, whether a small town or a big city, has basic needs from the flooding and growth that has taken place in Ward County that aren't funded.

A citizens group and our Ward County Commissioners are proposing that a one-half cent sales tax be authorized for the purpose of constructing an office building, courthouse renovations, jail expansion and infrastructure repairs due to the 2011 flood and rising ground water, and to implement and collect a one-half of a one percent sales tax.

We all use the roads, the facilities and the services provided by our county on a regular basis whether it is directly or indirectly. Ward County needs this temporary tax so we as a community can move forward and to us with the jail at its capacity the safety of our communities isn't something we can take lightly.

We support the temporary one-half cent county sales tax and ask that you join us in voting yes.

(This letter was signed by Dennis Redding, mayor of Sawyer; Kalvin Myers, mayor of Carpio; Dennis Huff, mayor of Donnybrook; Alan Lee, mayor of Berthold; Roger Ness, mayor of Kenmare; and Jerome Gruenberg, mayor of Burlington)
