GRAND FORKS (AP) - A man on trial in Grand Forks for allegedly trying to shoot and kill his apartment roommate says he deliberately missed.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that 27-year-old Travis Samshal testified in his own defense on Wednesday, saying he was afraid that 35-year-old Leo Franco was about to hurt him on Dec. 14, 2011, the night of the incident. Samshal also said that Franco had made sexual advances that "creeped me out." Franco denies that.

Samshal said he fired a shot over Franco's shoulder to scare him.

Jury deliberations in the attempted murder case are scheduled to begin Friday. Jurors also could consider the lesser charge of reckless endangerment.
