North Dakotans warned about cell phone scam

October 29, 2012
Minot Daily News

BISMARCK (AP) - Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says North Dakota cell phone users should be aware of a new scam.

He says his office's Consumer Protection Division has received reports about that scammers are warning of possible cell phone disruptions because of work on cell phone towers. Stenehjem says a bogus customer service technician claims to offer credit on a customer's bill to make up for any inconvenience.

Stenehjem says when people are called, they're asked for private financial information. He says that information can be used by identity thieves.
