Gerald Buettner, 73, Minot, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Gerald Henry Buettner was born Jan. 31, 1939, in Minot, to Henry Gerhart and Vivian (Martinson) Buettner. He was baptized at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. His father, Henry Buettner, died when Gerald was a young child. He was raised by his mother, Vivian, and his stepfather, Joseph Savelkoul. He attended St. Leo's Catholic School in Minot, participating in band, choir, and sports, and graduated in 1957. He went on to graduate from Minot Business School.
Gerald married Patricia Cady on Aug. 27, 1958, at Littler Flower Catholic Church in Minot. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1956, and was called up to active duty in 1961 for the Berlin Crisis. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1965.
Along with his mother and stepfather, he owned/managed Joe's Place from 1958-1976. When the new U.S. Highway 83 was built in 1976, the state purchased Joe's Place. Gerald and his wife, Pat, built and operated the Pour Farm until 2000, when they retired. Gerald and Pat have spent the last 11 winters at their home in Mesa, Ariz.
Gerald was a member and board member for the North Dakota Beverage Association and the Minot Beverage Association for a number of years. He was also a member of the Minot Retrievers Club, the Minot Gun Club, the Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie. He was also a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot.
Gerald is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Pat, Minot; daughter, Cheryl (Rodney) Kremer, Burlington; son, Byron Buettner, Minot; grandchildren, Sara Henson, Jessica Letvin, Joseph Letvin, Richard (Kayla) Kremer, Paul Buettner, and Molly Buettner; stepgrandchildren, Dawn (Dave) Parsons, Carla (Chris) Spooner, and Aaron (Jennifer) Kremer; great-grandchildren, Tyler Letvin, Alyssa Henson, Kaden Letvin and Kylee Letvin, stepgreat-grandchilren, Christopher Darling, Cody Spooner, Kiersten Spooner, Brandon Spooner, Taya Westcott, and Devin Olson; one stepgreat-great-grandson, Oliver Darling; niece, Shanda Lewis; and nephew, Corey Martin.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Henry Buettner; mother, Vivian Savelkoul; stepfather, Joseph Savekoul; and sister, Beverly (Cliff) Martin.
Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Private family interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register book today, Oct. 23, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Vigil prayer service: Today at 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
