Jean "Doris" Olson, 86, Fargo, formerly of Minot, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, in a Fargo assisted living center.
Doris was born Dec. 4, 1925, at Northwood, the daughter of Benhard and Carrie (Bakken) Larson. She was raised and educated at Berthold and graduated from Berthold High School in 1944. Doris attended Minot Business College for two years and was employed at the Ward County Courthouse in the Ward County Extension Office.
Doris was united in marriage to Oscar Olson on Dec. 6, 1948, at Berthold. They made their home at Berthold until 1963, when they moved to Minot. Along with raising their two children, she was employed at Nash Finch, Farmers Union Insurance agency and later at Minot State University as a secretary for Dr. Warren Allen from 1971 until 1985. She retired in 1985. Oscar died Sept. 18, 2007. Doris lived at Sommerset Court in 2008 and then moved to the Edgewood Vista at Fargo in 2009.
Doris was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was an active volunteer and cook for the soup kitchen. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, golfing and camping.
She and Oscar volunteered at the Norsk Hostfest and were active participants in the Good Sam R.V. Club locally.
Doris is survived by: her daughter, Karen (John) Lamb, Winnipeg Beach, Man., son, Greg (Julie) Olson, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren, Micah (Alex) Lamb, and their children, Etienne and Emile, Matthew (Laura) Lamb, and their children, Madeleine, Sophia and Kylie; Amy Lamb and her fiance, Kevin McConnell, Jocelyn (Ed) Triplett, Kendra (Chris Brynes) Olson; and sister, Ila Robinson, Fargo.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, and husband of 59 years, Oscar.
Funeral service: Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, 10 a.m., in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold
Visitation: Friday, Oct. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m., in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
