CASSELTON (AP) - Authorities say a 69-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a train in Casselton.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon at a crossing on state Highway 18, or Langer Avenue.

Witnesses say a westbound train had cleared the intersection when the man began to cross the tracks while the crossing gates were down. The victim was struck by an eastbound train.

Authorities say the engineer of the train had sounded his horn to warn the pedestrian.
