Leonard Schneibel, 84, of Harvey, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Leonard was born on Sept. 27, 1928, on the family farm near Orrin. He was the son of Sigmund and Katherine (Jaeger) Schneibel. He grew up on the farm and attended the Jefferson Township country school. On Nov. 21, 1951, he entered the United States Marine Corps. He married Anna Massine on Feb. 4, 1952, at Balta. They lived on base at the Camp Pendleton and El Toro Naval stations in California. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 4, 1953. They returned to Harvey. He started working at the Standard Oil Service Station on Harvey's Main Street. He bought the station in 1961 and in 1996 he sold the station and retired.
Leonard was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, at Harvey, and a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Harvey Volunteer Fire Department and was a life member of the North Dakota Firefighters Association. He served on the Harvey City Council and was a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie, Chamber of Commerce and American Legion Post 28, all in Harvey.
Leonard enjoyed fishing and playing cards, especially pinochle.
Leonard is survived by: his wife, Ann of Harvey; seven sons, Richard (Ellie) of Harvey, Dean (JoAnn) of Fargo, Dale (Kathy) of Lincoln, Dwight (Rhonda) of Mounds, Minn., Darius (Julie) of Fargo, Doran (Kris) of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Dana of Richfield, Minn.; three daughters, JoAnn (Jim) Mock, Philipsburg, Pa., Jolene (Bob) LeClerc of Lakeville, Minn. and Jodie Schneibel of Racine, Wis.; 23 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Elizabeth Marquart, Minot, Rebecca Cusey of Grand Rapids, Minn., Pauline Wieland of Beresford, S.D., and Barbara Schafer of Louisville, Mont.
Leonard was preceded in death by: his parents; sons, Doug and Duane; grandchildren, Robby Schneibel, Brittany Mock, Elizabeth Schneibel; brothers, Sigmund, Anton, Joe, August, Leo, Maurus and Louis; sisters, Mary Schneibel, Eleanor Neiss and Helen Grad.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Harvey.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be today, Monday, Oct. 15, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, with rosary service today, Monday, at 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey.
