Kevin Cramer seems to be confused about the differences between legislation and regulation.
Legislators' responsibility is to determine the best interests of their state and citizens to develop laws and guidance to achieve that end.
Regulators' responsibility is to insure that the outputs of legislators are followed. Impartially.
That means that, like Caesar's wife, regulators need to be free of all possible suspicion. Clearly then, accepting political contributions from any industry that is, or will be regulated, is unethical and wrong.
Regulators obviously receive information and data from industry because they need it for their investigations and evaluations. Industry representatives also talk with the regulators. But that is as far as it should go.
Individual members of the industries certainly can contribute to individual regulators but the industries can not legally do so according to North Dakota's Century Code.
Pam Gulleson and current PSC candidate Brad Crabtree have it right. Industry contributions to regulators are wrong.
