VELVA The log design of Farmers Union Oil Co. of Velva's new store being built is not typical of a gas station. The building's entrance has the largest log truss in the United States, measuring 80 feet long and weighing over 8 tons, according to company information.
The more than 7,000-square-foot store is being built along U.S. Highway 52 on the edge of Velva.
According to Cory Schmaltz, general manager of Farmers Union Oil of Velva, the store will provide 24-hour service.

It will include fueling bays, dining service and fast food. There will be a truckers lounge with showers, wireless Internet and laundry.
The project is being done with financial help from Peoples State Bank of Velva, USDA Rural Electric programs and the North Dakota Corn Growers Association.
Owned and operated by Farmers Union Oil Co. of Velva, the project will create 15 new jobs.
